Women on Target®

Women on Target® is an initiative run by the NASRPC in conjunction with the Irish Sports Council and it's Women in Sport initiative.

Target shooting is one of the few sports where there is no advantage to being male or female. Women have excelled in the competitive shooting sports over the years. Target shooting is also a very social sport where lifelong friendships and relationships are fostered.

Target shooting in Ireland is predominantly male. Whereas women do take part and do extremely well, their numbers are quite low and we feel that women are not provided with adequate opportunities to be introduced to the sport.

NASRPC is providing a number of Instruction days throughout the country to help introduce more women to the sport of target shooting. We will initially focus on the pistol shooting sports and then progress to other disciplines over time.

NASRPC are proud use the Internationally recognised Women on Target® course material produced by the NRA.

Women in Sport initiative

Irish Sports Council Chair, Ossie Kilkenny stated: "This Initiative is aimed at encouraging women; young and old alike into sport as participants, players, officials and administrators. It is recognised that we need to attract more women into all levels of sport and these programmes announced today provide the necessary opportunities for Irish girls and women to access sport in their communities."

Speaking at the launch, ISC Chief Executive John Treacy said: "Attracting more women into sport is a key element of our participation strategy, which is all about breaking down barriers and increasing participation in sport, this is a priority for the Irish Sports Council. These projects, and the development of a dedicated website for women in sport, are the means by which many women can rekindle their relationship with sport, or be introduced to it and experience its life enhancing power."
