    Our Disciplines

    Sporting Rifle

Sporting Rifle involves shooting at a fixed Target from a prone position with the rifle supported on the shooters hand.

The Prone position involves the shooter lying flat on the ground. The Shooter may wear a shooting jacket, sling and a shooting glove which aid them in maintaining the shooting position for the duration of the match.

The NASRPC run Sporting Rifle competitions for rifles chambered in 22lr ammunition and whose overall weight, including scope, is no more than 10lbs.
The Most popular competitions are shot at 50m but there are also competitions run at 25 and 100 metres. There is also the Kiel Trophy which is a Multi Discipline competition including Sporting Rifle.

    Benchrest Rifle

Benchrest Rifle involves shooting at a fixed target from a seated position with the rifle resting on a bench.

There - it does exactly what it says on the tin.

This is one of the best shooting disciplines for the beginner. It is also one of the most challenging shooting disciplines for the seasoned target shooter.

    How can it be both?

There are a number of categories within the sport, each of which caters for a differnt types of firearm, to ensure that the beginner with his old 'bunny gun' is not at a disadvantage when competing against someone who has spent thousands on equipment specifically for this sport.

Don't let that fool you, however, as there have been some amazing scores achieved with the tradional .22 sporting rifle.
At the end of the day it comes down to how good you are and that comes down to practice, practice, practice and of course the odd competition to see how you are doing.

The NASRPC runs Rimfire Benchrest Rifle competitions for rifles chambered for 22lr ammunition.
The most popular competitions are shot at a range of 50 metres but there are also competitions run at 25 metres and 100 metres.
Competitions involve either 25 shots, one target, or 50 shoits, two targets.
You get a maximum time of 30 minutes per target in which time you must take your 25 scoring shots and also have time for unlimited sighting shots.

For further Details on this discipline please go to the Benchrest Rifle page.
